I’m finally back to share more from my lovely maternity. This couple brought along their current “children” – two adorable dogs – and we had a fun time getting them in the shots as well. Their little girl dog was all about the camera and probably would have been in every shot if we had let her!
I think this crazy little pooch rules the household!
I only have time to share one from my latest maternity session but I’ll come back and post more tomorrow. I picked this one because I absolutely adore the greenery against her beautiful dress. It helps that she’s gorgeous too! Just one for now…
This little 4-month-old was amazingly animated. He came into the studio with a huge smile on his face so I knew he’d be fun. He had so many adorable smiles and faces!
Baby “S” started getting a tad fussy towards the end of our session and we quickly found out why. When mom gave him his blankie and pacifier to help soothe him, he nearly fell asleep on my beanbag. The poor little guy was sleepy!
This little guy celebrated his first birthday the day before our session. He was a cutie and a lot of fun to work with.

This is just an outtake but it made me laugh as soon as I saw it. This is how some kids REALLY feel about me as a photographer HAHAHA!
I had another super cute and sweet newborn this weekend. His mom and dad were super patient during the nearly 3.5 hour session. Little boy “M” wanted to be held and nursed most of the time but luckily, he fell asleep for us and was a dream to photograph.
This little guy came all the way from California! I don’t think he was used to the cooler Ohio weather either because he insisted on being in front of my space heater the entire time. Despite being a little chilly and battling some wicked reflux (reminded me so much of my own kids!), he was still a wonderful trooper and we got some great captures. I wish he and mom a safe trip home!
It’s been newbornpalooza lately! My latest session offered twice the newborn goodness with some adorable twin boys. These cuties were a little older so they didn’t want to sleep as much as most newbies do so we got some great awake shots. Thanks to the “W” family for allowing me to photograph your new additions. Baby girl “J” was a feisty one and it made me laugh. I love babies with feisty personalities! She was only happy when attached to her mommy so picture taking was not an easy task but alas, all kids fall asleep eventually! This little cutie pie made me work for it but we definitely finished with some great portraits. Her older sister, who I also photographed as a newborn, was SO very good during our session. Thank you, Little Miss “O” for being such a wonderful little girl!
Mom saw a similar picture to this on my website and loved it so we worked hard to get this shot. I think it turned out great!

If you ask any photographer with younger children who the hardest subjects are to photograph, I bet 9 out of 10 would say their own kids. We like to refer to it as the Photographer’s Child Syndrome (PCS). My kids are definitely no exception and suffer from severe PCS. While it’s never easy, I must say that my oldest two children have become a bit easier in the last year or two to photograph, although, getting a genuine smile instead of “sit and say cheese” forced smile/grimace is the real challenge. Even so, I would prefer to take their picture and anyone else in all of Toledo over my youngest. Not only is she in the worst possible age group for photos (18 months to 2.5 years) but she also takes PCS to the extreme. She goes running the minute I lift the camera. I have a bit better chance of getting a decent shot of her outdoors as I can usually trick her into looking in my direction every so often but in the studio, it’s a lost cause. She knows what the studio is for and the minute I try and “stage” her the PCS flows full force. I have not taken a decent studio portrait of her since she was 9 months old. I told myself that when she turns 18-months-old I would force myself to give it another try but I chickened out. I just couldn’t get myself to do it! So this morning, while I was folding laundry, I got this great idea in my head that TODAY was going to be the day. TODAY I was going to get a magnificent studio portrait of my now 22-month-old sweetheart (a term used loosely here as there is nothing sweet about her during a photo shoot). I set everything up, got her dressed, had all my tricks and bribes ready to go, camera up and ready to shoot and…DISASTER! Yet another failed attempt. Well, almost. I did get this one (and only one!) shot with near eye contact and a hint of a smile. OK, so she’s smiling at the lollipop I have dangling over my head and is getting ready to pounce but it’s a decent shot nonetheless. I suppose beggars can’t be choosers!
What a great way to start off my Mother’s Day! I had the pleasure of photographing this 6-day-old bundle of newborn goodness this morning. And let me tell you, he wanted to make sure that I got to experience all of the “goodness” that newborns have to offer including pee, poop and spit-up. Oh the joys of motherhood haha!
